Willie A. Evans, a man of remarkable integrity and passion, peacefully departed this world on July 27, 2024, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy cherished by all who knew him. Born in Warsaw, Virginia, on February 9, 1944, Willie’s early years were spent imbibing the of hard work and commitment, lessons that would guide him throughout his life.

A dedicated, Willie devoted thirty-one years of his life to Amtrak, where he excelled as an Electrical Engineer. His contributions to the company and his unwavering commitment to excellence were commendable and earned him the respect of many. Beyond his engineer’s cap, Willie embraced another passion as the owner and operator of Mr. Willie's Comics And Collectibles in the vibrant Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Here, he cultivated a rich community space that delighted comic enthusiasts and collectors alike, blending his love for art with his entrepreneurial spirit.

Willie's academic journey led him through the public school system in Richmond County, Virginia, where his pursuit of knowledge was evident from an early age. He balanced his career pursuits with personal passions, cultivating a deep affection for luxury vehicles and becoming a steadfast supporter of Philadelphia's sports teams, embodying the spirit of a true fan.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Lillian Christian Evans of Lower Gwynedd, PA, who provided unwavering support and companionship throughout their years together. Willie's legacy is further carried on by his children: Ian Hartman (Jennifer) of Stamford, CT, Alfred Brian Evans of Alvin, TX, Jason D. Evans of Laurel, MD, Tiffany A. Evans of Philadelphia, PA, and stepson Steven Christian (Kia) of Lower Gwynedd, PA. His five grandchildren—Sarah, Jacob, Sophia, Lillie Hartman, and Sydney Christian—will hold dear the fond memories shared with their grandfather.

Willie’s bond with his siblings was profound; he is survived by Shirley E. Cupitt of Warsaw, VA, Webster L. Evans (Michelle) of Willingboro, NJ, Marva Boone (Melvin) of Willingboro, NJ, and Lillian D. Robinson (James) of Fredericksburg, VA. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law Dorothy Evans, Beatrice Evans, and Shirley Evans, all of Philadelphia, PA, along with goddaughters Lyric Howard and Norielle Sumiel of Warsaw, VA. His extended family, including a host of nieces, nephews, cousins—most notably his special cousin, Levi Lucas—friends, and community members, will remember him for his kindness, humor, and generosity.

In memory of Willie A. Evans, a memorial service will be held on August 23, 2024, at Ivy Hill Cemetery Chapel in Philadelphia, PA. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, as they celebrate the life of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Willie completed his race with grace and dignity, returning to God, leaving a sound impact on all those he met. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who cherished him, a testament to a life well-lived.
